Learn Chinese Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK) Chinese Proficiency Test
The HSK is a national standardized test of Chinese for non-native speakers. It was designed by the Chinese
government to test Chinese proficiency by foreigners, overseas Chinese, and non-Han Chinese. The test results are
used for admission to Chinese universities and by certain employers to assess language proficiency. The original test
was administered by the HSK Center of Beijing Language and Culture University and consisted of four levels. Since 2010, it has been
administered by Hanban, an agency of the Ministry of Education. This second version of the test consists of six levels.
A third version of the test was made effective july 2021. It consists of nine levels.
HSK tests are given periodically in China and approved locations overseas.
