YellowBridge Talker is a text-to-speech (TTS) software add-on for
Internet Explorer. It allows you listen to Chinese words pronounced in Mandarin
on any web page. While a few sites allow you to listen to sound files by downloading
them to your computer, that approach typically results in an annoying lag
time at best and can be utterly useless in a dial-up connection. Instead,
YellowBridge Talker synthesizes the speech right in your computer for instant
sound generation. The difference is like day and night. If you are studying
Chinese or simply could use a Chinese text reader, you'll find that YellowBridge
Talker to be an invaluable aid to learning the correct Mandarin pronunciation.

Free Trial Download and Installation
- To ensure a smooth
installation:
- Make sure that your current login has administrative privileges or login into one that has.
- Turn off any antivirus or similar system protection software for the duration
of the installation.
- Download YellowBridge Talker (about 2MB or 5-6 minutes on a dial-up connection).
After you click on the link, a File Download window will appear.
Click on the Open or Run button.
- Follow the installer prompts to complete the installation.
After installation, you may quckly verify that YellowBridge Talker is working
correctly by returning to this page on a new browser page and clicking on the example text
with the speech icons above.
| If you are running Windows 98 or NT,
you may get the message "Windows cannot open this file" when you click on the saved TalkerSetup.msi file. In that case, click on one
of the following links to download and install the correct Windows
Installer software from Microsoft and repeat the previous step.

Usage
After installation, simply use as indicated below. Note that there is no separate program to
start. There are two ways to access YellowBridge Talker:
- On pages specifically designed to take advantage of YellowBridge Talker, simply click on
the Talker icon. Some of the pages that
do so include the YellowBridge Chinese/English Dictionary
and the YellowBridge Chinese Flashcards.
- On any arbitrary web page simply select the desired text using your mouse, right click to bring up
the context menu and select Pronounce Text.
