Watercolor artist. Kingman grew up in Hong Kong, where he studied both traditional Chinese
as well as Western art. Returning to the US, he attended the Fox Morgan Art School, specializing in watercolors.
He painted for the Depression-era Works Progress Administration. He received many awards, including two Guggenheim
fellowships and the American Watercolor Society's Dolphin Award. He taught at Columbia University and other schools.
His work is exhibited in many museums around the US. He once described his style as one where landscapes are painted
the oriental way but buildings and other objects in the Westen way.
