Was Chancellor of University of
California at Berkeley (UCB) from 1990-1997, the first Asian-American
chancellor of a major research university. Tien was also a
distinguished professor of engineering and an expert in the field of heat
transfer. The UCB Center for East Asian Studies has been named after him.
