Browser add-ons, plug-ins, and other similar software gadgets make it even easier
to access the YellowBridge Chinese English Dictionary. What is available
and how one gets these additional pieces of softwere installed, unfortunately,
varies with the browser you are using.
Search from the Browser Search Field
Internet Explorer 7 and Mozilla Firefox 2.0
You can add the YellowBridge Dictionary as a "Search Provider". If you are viewing this
page using one of these browsers, simply click on the button below.
(Alternately, if you are already familiar with the search auto-discovery mechanism, you
may add them directly from the search provider menu. Otherwise, just ignore the previous sentence).
After installation, you can search the YellowBridge Dictionary by entering the
search string directly into the browser search field (top right)
and selecting either YB Chinese » English or
YB English » Chinese from the list of search providers located to the immediate right of
the search field. (Note that icons are not shown under IE7 but in browsers where they do appear, you can use the different position
of the icons to quickly identify the direction of the translation).
Search using the Context Menu
Internet Explorer (All versions)
With context menu search, you can select the text on any web page and press down on the right mouse
button to pop up the context menu. Choose either YB Chinese » English or YB English » Chinese.
Download the YellowBridge
Context Menu Installer. After you click on the link, a File Download window will appear. Click on the Open or Run button.
Follow the installer prompts to complete
the installation.
If you are running Windows 98 or NT, you may get the message "Windows cannot open this file" when you click on the installer file. In that case click on one
of the following links to download and install the correct Windows Installer software from Microsoft and repeat the previous step.
If you have added the YellowBridge Dictionary as a "Search Provider" (see top
left), you can easily perform a context search as follows:
First go to the
search provider menu (top right, adjacent to the browser search field) select either YB
Chinese » English or YB English » Chinese depending on the direction of the desired translation.
Use the mouse to highlight the text you want to search, right click on the mouse
and select either YB Chinese » English or YB English » Chinese.
